    This is one of the best albums the Kenton orchestra ever recorded. It is the Kenton orchestra from the west coast jazz era (50s - 60s) with the cool sounds. The solos by Lennie Niehaus and Bill Perkins are fabulous. I bought this on LP back in when it first came out /5(13).

    Dec 19,  · The album I listened to on my Walkman in Balboa was Stan Kenton's Back to Balboa. Recorded in January at Balboa's Rendezvous Ballroom, the album was scored by three magnificent arrangers: Marty Paich arranged The Big Chase and My Old Flame.
