With this amazing album, Dead Can Dance fully took the plunge into the heady mix of musical traditions that would come to define its sound and style for the remainder of its career. The straightforward goth affectations are exchanged for a sonic palette and range of imagination. Calling it "haunting" and "atmospheric" barely scratches even the initial surface of the album's power.9/

Despite being grounded partially in liturgical origins, the music that Dead Can Dance recorded for “Spleen and Ideal”, “Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun”, “The Serpent’s Egg”, and “Aion” sounded refreshingly different to modern-day audiences, whose limited familiarity with this music, if they had it at all, might've come /5(47).

Dec 13,  · My favourite DCD album, but only barely ahead of "Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun". The two tracks that nail it for me though, are also both Brendon Perry-sung tracks: "The Cardinal Sin" and "Advent". The track you mention is my 3rd choice, a fantastic closing to a classic album. LTN: Dead Can Dance - "Spleen & Ideal" 4AD cd.

Dec 15,  · Do not listen to the vocal minority complaining about the low quality of the / reissues of the Dead Can Dance albums. I have a few of them and they sound and look excellent. Faithful to original pressings (I have a couple to compare) very clean sound on the LP's themselves/5(K).

What can i say my sister posted one song on FB (spleen and ideal): I had not listened to Dead can dance since the early 90's - I was blown over. What a record. I got it yesterday and listened to it thrice in a row,. I realise I had missed them His voice, especially. Not a very objective review i suppose/5(74).
